Basso Champion de Luxe – Verkauft
Cicli Basso christens the Champion de Luxe as a top-class bike. Not only the model is top class, but also the state of preservation of this racing bike. Painted in Ferrari red, it stands there as if it had fallen into a Sleeping Beauty slumber after its delivery in 1987.
A family business like it is in the book
The company Cicli Basso was founded in 1977 by Alcide and Renato Basso. About three years earlier, Alcide Basso, a trained mechanic, began building frames in his parents' garage. After his third brother Marino Basso retired from professional cycling in 1978, he also joined the newly founded company of his brothers and made valuable contributions to the progress of the frame building with his experience. In 1981, the brothers finally started production near the famous Campagnolo factory and shortly afterwards exported to Germany thanks to Renato Basso's contacts. To this day, Basso builds racing bikes at the highest level.
A dynamic period for Basso
Basso was still a very young company at the time this bike was made. Until the mid-80s, Basso built three different models, among which the Gap was the top model of the young framesmith. It was named after the town of Gap in the French Alps. This is a very significant place for the Basso family, because Marino Basso himself won his first and only road world championship there in the summer of 1972. The Gap was then finally replaced by the Loto at the end of the 1980s. Shortly before that, the Basso brothers took over the trademark rights of the traditional Pogliaghi company after much toing and froing. The strong accent of Pogliaghi's frame design in the "Loto" cannot be overlooked.
Caution: Danger of confusion!
This Campion de Luxe is often confused with the Basso Gap. Because of the almost identical construction and colouring, this can easily happen. However, there are small differences, for example on the frame stickers. This bike deserves to be called "de Luxe" because of its chrome-plated lugs. The buyer is offered a wide range of personalisation options. According to Basso, the Champion de Luxe is a top class bike. This frame was built using the so-called cold-brazing process with high-quality silver solder to protect the Columbus SL tubes. This is, of course, done very cleanly and carefully by hand.
Campagnolo's flagship for over 10 years
The Super Record group was first launched in 1974 and is the successor to the Nuovo Record group. In 1987, Campagnolo discontinued the production of the Super Record group and replaced it with the C-Record group.
This Super Record group is from the last year of production. This can be recognised by the fact that there is no "Pat. stamped on the back of the rear derailleur.
The Group Set of World Champions
The maxim was to combine the attributes of lightness, safety and stiffness. Campagnolo achieved this through a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. This is the group of world champions.
The best material for the best riders
The Super Record group complemented the range of the Italian manufacturer Campagnolo from 1974 onwards and was designed to enable top performance. Super Record is synonymous with professional material and consisted of the highest quality materials of its time.
