Cinelli Supercorsa – Verkauft

The Cinelli Supercorsa is undisputedly considered a legend among Italian racing bike frames. Approximately 70 years of continuous production speak for themselves. Matching the fiftieth anniversary of the company Campagnolo, this bike is equipped with a limited and refined special edition of the Super Record group.

The story of the creation of a masterpiece

The Cinelli Supercorsa is an Italian racing bike legend. Shortly after opening his workshop, Cino Cinelli introduced the Modello SC - Speciale Corsa in the early 1950s. Together with his frame builder Luigi Valsassina, he wanted to build the stiffest bike possible. He achieved this with a precise harmonization of the two main components of a frame, the lugs and the tubes. The main focus of this harmonization was the fork crown and the saddle lug. Due to the sloping shoulders of the fork crown, the fork lug was narrower and thus the fork was stiffer. Likewise, the two frame builders decided to clamp the seatstays behind the saddle lug with a continuous bolt, thus fixing the seatpost. Fausto Coppi himself was one of the first to test this novel frame and also raced with it.

Only two significant changes since the 1960s

After several years of refining their work, the two Italians completed their self-proclaimed most philosophical device. Since the mid-1960s, the frame has undergone only two major changes. On the one hand, when Antonio Colombo took over in 1979, the trademark changed and five years later the design of the bottom bracket was altered. This so-called Cinelli "Spoiler" bottom bracket was no longer made with the press method, but with the more precise investment casting process. To this day, it is the only patented lug in the world and was also used in the frames of many other manufacturers. All other changes to the frame were of a subtle nature and involve changes to the tube sets, cable guides or manufacturing techniques. As a result, the Cinelli Supercorsa has been manufactured for about 70 years, making it one of the longest-produced road bike frames in the world. Today, the frame is manufactured by an experienced frame builder just outside Milan and is available in 17 sizes.

Multi-talent Cino Cinelli

Cino Cinelli was not only a frame builder but also a racer, writer and official in various cycling federations. He started his career as a cyclist and won Milan-San Remo in 1943. After World War II, he began building frames, drawing on some of the ideas and experience he had gained during his time as a professional rider. During this period, Cino Cinelli was also a co-founder of the Italian Professional Cyclists' Association and acted as a representative of the interests of the riders of the cycling federation and the CONI sports federation. He was the president of the federation for a full 24 years. His manual on the theory and training of cycling is still a classic today.

Cinelli not only built frames

The Milan company was also known for components. It started with steel stems and handlebars. After that came many an innovation from Cinelli. With the Unicanitor, Cinelli brought in 1962 the first saddle on the market, which is built on a plastic base. In 1971, the first clipless pedal, the M71, was launched. It also includes the first aluminum handlebar accepted by road bike professionals and later celebrated. A controversial innovation that failed to gain acceptance were Bivalent q/r hubs. These integrated the freewheel in the frame so that the wheel could be used front or rear. However, this idea was ahead of its time and also cost about twice as much as a comparable Campagnolo hub.

The famous winged "C" is the product of a star designer

After Antonio Colombo took over in 1978, he commissioned a new logo from Italo Lupi the following year. Lupi was still a young architect at the time and later designed logos for Prada, Fiorucci and the Turin Olympics, among others. The logo is one of the first to completely distance itself from the heraldic symbols that had previously been widely used. It becomes a trademark for racing cycling and is imitated accordingly. However, it has remained distinctive to this day.

BIRTHDAY OF A COMPANY THAT CHANGED THE WORLD OF BICYCLES LIKE NO OTHER

The year 1983 is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Campagnolo. On the occasion of this anniversary, the Italians brought out a refined version of their best group. The 50th Anniversary group was born and is technically and visually based on the Super Record group. Each part is engraved with the signature of the founder Tullio Campagnolo. In addition, some parts have an emblem gilded with 22 carat gold. The result is an incomparable finish. The series was limited to a number of 15,000 groups. The installed group has the serial number 7110. In addition, this bike is equipped with the 50th Anniversary screw sprocket, which curiously was not an official part of the 50th Anniversary group.
