Gios Torino Super Record – SOLD

"The Gypsy" Roger De Vlaeminck helped this bike achieve cult status. The Super Record by Gios Torino is the first port of call when it comes to durable yet fast racing machines.

One icon - three generations - nine years of success

There were three different versions of the Gios Super Record, produced from 1972 to 1981. On the first version, Roger De Vlaeminck rode to numerous titles with the Brooklyn Team, including Milan - San Remo, Paris - Roubaix, Giro di Lombardia and the Tour of Flanders. Vlaeminck won Paris Roubaix alone three times and was christened Mr. Paris - Roubaix as a result. On these tough cobbled races, the Super Record earned a reputation as an iron-hard and indestructible racing machine. With the retirement of Brooklyn from cycle racing, the second and third generation of the Super Record was ridden by Team IJSBOERKE led by Didi Thurau.

The emergence of this unmistakable colour

In 1972, everything was to change for the Gios company. Company founder Tolmino Gios met Giorgio Perfetti, the owner of the Brooklyn Chewing Gum Company, at the Milan bike show and charmed him right away. Gios presented his new city bike "Easy Rider" and found a buyer for 100 pieces with Perfetti. Shortly afterwards, another collaboration began: Perfetti founded the Brooklyn cycling team as part of a marketing campaign, which celebrated numerous successes on Gios' bikes and with Roger De Vlaeminck. Gios adapted his frame colour to the blue of the chewing gum manufacturer and so the famous Gios blue was finally created. Alfredo Gios is said to have once said that he would build any bicycle in any colour as long as it was blue.

Cut-outs in the fork crown create space for the new brand logo

The first generation of the Gios Super Record was ridden with the acronym "GT" on the chrome fork and a large punched-out "GT" in the bottom bracket. With the two subsequent versions, it turned out that weight could be saved by making cut-outs in the crown of the fork. This small space was then filled with the famous Gios coin. Gold-coloured on the first generation, silver thereafter. A contemporary white band was also added to the frame, which gave the brand name more contrast. The second and third generation of the Gios Super Record differ only slightly from each other. Among them, the colour of the coin in the fork crown changed and wider brake mounts were drilled for the new hexagonal brakes.

Campagnolo's flagship for over 10 years

The Super Record group was first launched in 1974 and is the successor to the Nuovo Record group. In 1987, Campagnolo discontinued the production of the Super Record group and replaced it with the C-Record group.

The stamped Pat. 81 shows that this specimen dates from 1981.

The Group Set of World Champions

The maxim was to combine the attributes of lightness, safety and stiffness. Campagnolo achieved this through a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. This is the group of world champions.

The best material for the best riders

The Super Record group complemented the range of the Italian manufacturer Campagnolo from 1974 onwards and was designed to enable top performance. Super Record is synonymous with professional material and consisted of the highest quality materials of its time.
